Version 2.1

MyLaserTools 2.1 release notes

Layered art and 3D prints from the Art Library

Many Art Library pieces now have a Layers / 3D tab. Turn a piece into stacked laser layers, a cut inlay or a multi-colour 3D print, check it in 3D and download the files.

New features

  • Layers / 3D tab: Choose how many colours to keep, remove small specks, and set the layer depth, frame and backing. A 3D view shows the result before you download. When you change a setting, press Update preview and the downloads follow.
  • Laser layers and inlays: Download every layer side by side in one SVG, ready to cut, with light glue guides showing where the next layer sits. Inlay files keep each colour as a filled shape so the cut pieces fit next to each other.
  • STL and 3MF for 3D printing: Export a flat multi-colour print or a stacked relief. The 3MF keeps each colour as its own part, so you can give each one a filament in your slicer.
  • Barcodes in Design Editor: Add Code 128, EAN-13, EAN-8 and UPC-A barcodes from Shapes. They arrive as vector shapes, ready to engrave on tags and packaging.
  • Cut path tools: Add an overcut so a cut closes cleanly, choose where a cut starts, reverse its direction, and round or invert single corners.
  • Text warp and maths in number fields: Bend text into arcs and bulges from Text Effects. Number fields accept sums and units, so you can type 120/3 or 1/4in.
  • More vintage fonts: 204 alphabets rebuilt from old lettering books are now available, up from 94, with redrawn hatched shadows.
  • Sign in with an email code: Get a one-time code by email instead of typing a password. If there is no account for that email yet, you can create one from the same screen.

Improvements

  • 3D preview on each piece: Pieces that work in layers show a 3D preview image on their Layers / 3D tab straight away, even before you unlock them.
  • One unlock per piece: Unlocking a piece with sparks covers the image formats and the Layers / 3D downloads. Supporter and MyLaserTools Pro include both.
  • Layers / 3D sized to your device: Each piece knows the smallest device that can build it. A computer can open larger, more detailed designs than a phone, and the tab tells you when a piece needs a computer.
  • Speck cleanup in millimetres: The speck slider shows the size it removes, such as Under 1.8 mm, so fine engraving detail stays in.
  • Preview for mockups: Before you unlock a piece, you can download its low-resolution preview for mockups and mood boards.
  • Separate laser colours for cuts and glue guides: In the layered laser files, each layer cuts in its own laser colour and glue guides stay teal, so LightBurn never mixes them up. The layer name still gives the artwork colour.
  • Batch numbering: Number a batch in sequence with a start, step, prefix, suffix and leading zeros, for tags such as A-001 to A-050.
  • Faster Design Editor: Dragging, zooming and selecting are smoother, and maps open in the editor faster.
  • Spark check before placing art: Placing paid artwork from the Design Editor library asks you to confirm the spark cost first. Supporter and Pro members go straight through.
  • New mobile navigation: On phones, a tab bar at the bottom gives you Home, Generators, Art Library, Community and Menu. The back button now goes up one level and says where it goes.
  • Every tool in a category: Every generator now sits in at least one category, and a new Ornaments category gathers the ornament tools in one place.
  • Map preset product photos: 42 Map Designer presets now show a photo-style preview of the finished product.
  • Art Library names and filing: Pieces have clearer names, tags and collections, and one-ink prints also appear with the monochrome art.
  • Tools and artwork in one search: Homepage search shows matching tools first, followed by artwork previews and a link to all Art Library results.
  • Search in English and Spanish: English pages search English terms. Spanish pages accept English and Spanish for tools and artwork, including subjects such as caja, flores and helechos. Art Library search recognizes common spelling, accent and plural variants, and suggests corrections after an empty search when matching artwork exists.
  • Pattern exports that cannot go out incomplete: Pattern Generator and the Fill Pattern Panel warn you and stop an export that would be missing tiles.
  • Clearer licensing: Anyone can sell physical products they make. Reselling the files themselves needs Supporter or Pro, and files you exported as a member stay yours to resell after the membership ends.
  • Library patterns on boxes: Box Generator can fill the walls, lid and base with 68 seamless patterns from the pattern library as well as its own. Picture patterns stand upright on the finished box, and patterns that would fall apart when cut are left out.
  • Fill Pattern Panel pattern list: The panel now lists the same 68 library patterns as Box Generator. Each one opens at a size that renders quickly, and the size slider stops where the pattern still cuts cleanly.
  • Progress bar for patterns: Box Generator and the Fill Pattern Panel show a progress bar while a pattern is applied.

Bug fixes

  • Design Editor 3D preview: Dense artwork with holes no longer crashes the 3D preview or the export.
  • Fill Pattern Panel: Filling a shape with a pattern no longer freezes the editor.
  • Pattern Generator sheet: The sheet no longer shrinks while you change the tile size.
  • Dragging artwork: Artwork stays exactly where you let go of it.
  • Map Designer water layers: Water inversion set on a single layer is respected, and you can reset the settings you changed on a layer.
  • Spark price flash for members: Supporter and Pro members no longer see a spark price flash when they download or open paid artwork.
  • Language choice: The site keeps the language you picked instead of switching back.
  • Keyboard use on art pages: Moving between formats and Layers / 3D with the keyboard keeps your place.
  • Fill Pattern Panel library patterns: Patterns such as Fine Maze Weave, Confetti Sprinkles and Tribal Triangle Rows no longer come out with missing holes or a blank panel.

Quick answers

What's new in MyLaserTools 2.1?
Version 2.1 adds a Layers / 3D tab to Art Library pieces, so you can turn artwork into stacked laser layers, inlays, or STL and 3MF files for multi-colour 3D printing.
Why do some pieces have no Layers / 3D tab?
Some artwork has too many tiny shapes to build in a browser, or uses SVG features the layer builder cannot read. Those pieces keep their usual image downloads.
Does a Layers / 3D download cost extra sparks?
No. One unlock covers every download for that piece, including the layered and 3D files, and you can download them again as often as you like.
Which slicers can open the 3MF files?
Any slicer that reads 3MF can open them. Each colour arrives as a separate part, ready for you to assign a filament.
