Educational License
We support classrooms, makerspaces, and learning programs with free and discounted access to MyLaserTools Pro.
Effective June 23, 2026. Last updated June 23, 2026.
1. Overview
Many of the people who get the most out of MyLaserTools.com are teachers, students, and volunteers running hands-on programs. We want price to never be the reason a class cannot use our tools, so we offer free and discounted educational licenses for qualifying institutions and programs.
The free tier of MyLaserTools is already available to everyone, including in the classroom. An educational license adds Pro features, including Map Designer Pro, for an institution and provides written permission for the educational use described below. If you are an educational institution interested in a license, please reach out and we will set you up.
2. Who Qualifies
Educational licensing is intended for organized teaching and learning, such as:
- K-12 schools and school districts
- Colleges, universities, and vocational or trade schools
- Public libraries and museum education programs
- Makerspaces, fab labs, and community workshops with a teaching mission
- Registered nonprofits and youth programs (for example STEM, STEAM, and 4-H style clubs)
- Accredited homeschool co-ops and educators
Individual hobbyists, commercial production shops, and businesses that sell finished products are not covered by an educational license. For those uses, our standard Pro commercial license applies.
3. Free or Discounted
We look at each request individually and decide between a free or discounted license based on the size of the program and how the tools will be used. As a general guide:
Typically free
- A single teacher, classroom, club, or library program
- Nonprofit and community programs serving learners directly
- Short-term workshops, camps, and one-off educational events
Typically discounted
- Department, campus, or district-wide deployments across many seats
- Larger institutions with a dedicated budget for software and tools
- Programs where students sell finished products commercially
This is a guide, not a guarantee. We would rather say yes to a teacher than turn a class away over cost, and a modest fee from larger institutions is what keeps these tools sustainable and free for everyone else. We will always tell you up front whether a license is free or discounted before anything is agreed.
4. Eligibility & Verification
To set up an educational license we may ask for a few details to confirm eligibility, such as:
- The name and website of your institution or program
- A contact email at the institution's domain, where one exists
- Your role and a short description of how the tools will be used
- For nonprofits, a registration or charity number if available
Licenses are granted to the institution or program, not transferable to individuals for personal commercial use, and may be issued for a fixed term such as a school year and renewed on request.
5. Scope of Use
An educational license permits use of MyLaserTools and the files it generates, including Map Designer Pro and its map-based exports, for teaching, learning, demonstration, coursework, and student projects within your program. Students and educators keep the physical items they make.
Map Designer relies on third-party and public geospatial data, such as OpenStreetMap, elevation, and bathymetry sources. An educational license does not change those providers' requirements: when map-based designs are publicly displayed, distributed, or sold, you remain responsible for including the required attribution, and you must not bulk download, cache, resell, or build a separate database from that data except as each provider permits. Map and bathymetry layers are for creative and educational design use only and must never be used for navigation or any safety-critical purpose.
Selling generated digital files, redistributing them as downloadable assets, or using them in commercial production outside the educational program requires a Pro commercial license. Where students fundraise or sell finished physical products they make in class, let us know and we will include suitable terms in your license. All use remains subject to our Terms of Service and to any third-party data requirements noted in our licensing page, including map and bathymetry attribution.
6. How to Apply
Email us from your institutional address with a short note about your program and how you plan to use the tools. We usually reply within 5 business days and will let you know whether your license is free or discounted.
