Community design licensing
When a maker shares a design in the community gallery they pick one of the options below. The licence covers the design file itself and what anyone downloading it is allowed to do.
Designs made with our generators
Output from the MyLaserTools generators is yours to publish here. Sharing it does not give up your own rights to it, and it does not change what the site licence already grants you. What you choose below only governs what other people may do with the copy you publish.
Personal and commercial use
DefaultThe most permissive option offered. Anyone may download the design and use what they make from it, including selling the finished pieces.
You may
- Cut, engrave or print the design for yourself
- Sell the physical pieces you make from it
- Modify the design for your own use
You may not
- Resell or redistribute the design file itself
- Present the design as your own work
- Re-license it under different terms
Credit required (CC BY 4.0)
A standard Creative Commons licence. Broad rights, including commercial use and redistribution, on the condition that the maker is credited.
You may
- Use it commercially, including selling what you make
- Modify and build on it
- Redistribute the design file
You may not
- Omit credit to the maker
- Imply the maker endorses you
Credit required, share alike (CC BY-SA 4.0)
CC BY with copyleft. The same broad rights, including commercial use, but anything built on the design has to be shared under this same licence rather than locked down.
You may
- Use it commercially, including selling what you make
- Modify and build on it
- Redistribute the design file
You may not
- Omit credit to the maker
- Release an adaptation under more restrictive terms
- Imply the maker endorses you
Credit required, non-commercial (CC BY-NC 4.0)
For makers who want their name attached and their work kept out of commerce. Adapting and resharing is welcome, selling is not.
You may
- Cut, engrave or print the design for yourself
- Modify and build on it
- Redistribute the design file non-commercially
You may not
- Sell the pieces you make from it
- Use it in any commercial product or service
- Omit credit to the maker
Credit required, non-commercial, share alike (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0)
The most restrictive Creative Commons option offered: credit the maker, keep it non-commercial, and pass the same terms on to anything you build from it.
You may
- Cut, engrave or print the design for yourself
- Modify and build on it
- Redistribute the design file non-commercially
You may not
- Sell the pieces you make from it
- Omit credit to the maker
- Release an adaptation under more restrictive terms
Personal use only
For makers who are happy to share their work but do not want it used commercially.
You may
- Cut, engrave or print the design for yourself
- Modify the design for your own use
You may not
- Sell the pieces you make from it
- Use it in any commercial product or service
- Resell or redistribute the design file itself
Why there is no public domain option
A public domain dedication such as CC0 removes every condition permanently, including the ability to ask for credit or to stop the file being resold as someone else's product. Since much of what is shared here is produced with our generators, the most permissive option we offer is personal and commercial use of what you make, rather than a full giveaway of the file.
Reporting a design
Designs go live as soon as a maker publishes them, without prior review. We check them afterwards and act on reports. If you believe one infringes your rights or breaks the licence it was shared under, use the Report link on the design page, or send a formal notice through our copyright policy.
