## What Map Designer does

Map Designer is an online laser map maker for building maps from real-world geographic data. Search for a place or address, enter coordinates, or move the map to the area you want. Route layers can also import a GPX or KML track. Presets provide starting points for city streets, lakes and coastlines, topography, bathymetry, routes, parks, ornaments, signs, prints, and 3D relief maps.

The editor lets you choose and reorder map layers; show or hide individual features; adjust colors, line widths, detail, and visibility; add frames, icons, or vector text; and configure cut, score, engrave, filled, or 3D-oriented layers where the selected preset and feature support them. Topography and bathymetry are decorative design data, not surveying or navigation data.

## Inputs and locations

- Search by city, town, address, landmark, lake, coastline, mountain, or other available place.
- Enter latitude and longitude coordinates, including supported coordinate formats and map links.
- Pan, zoom, rotate, and frame the map area directly in the editor.
- Upload GPX or KML when adding a route layer.
- Start from a preset or create and save a project with your own layer configuration.

## Export formats

- **SVG:** download a combined vector map or individual named layer SVG files. Layer bundles and tiled jobs can be downloaded as ZIP archives.
- **PNG:** download a raster version of the combined design, with PNG ZIP options for layer or tile sets.
- **STL and 3MF:** create 3D model exports from filled map layers. Cut, score, and engrave-only SVG layers are not treated as solid 3D geometry.

Map Designer does not export DXF or vendor-specific laser project files. Its SVG output has been verified with LightBurn, xTool Creative Space, and the Glowforge design workspace. After import, review the physical size and assign each layer to the appropriate cut, score, or engrave operation for your material and machine. Power, speed, material, and pass settings are not embedded as a native LightBurn, xTool, or Glowforge project.

The combined SVG stores each non-empty export layer in a group carrying the layer name; the layer ZIP provides one SVG file per layer. Output can include both closed shapes and open linework. Route and score paths may remain open, and a street network can contain multiple paths rather than one automatically connected or welded path. The normal SVG uses numeric dimensions and a viewBox without an explicit physical unit, so confirm the intended size after import. Large-format tiling accepts an assembled size in millimetres or inches and includes A4 through 2A0 output presets.

The export preview includes controls for hiding layers, downloading combined or separate files, tiling oversized work, and removing small closed polygons with an adjustable cleanup threshold. The normal workflow does not require retracing: inspect the preview and imported job, confirm size and operations, then join or adjust geometry only when the construction, kerf, or material clearances require it.

## Free account, export packs, and Pro

A free account is required for Map Designer. It includes the complete editor, every public preset, saved projects, and 10 lifetime map exports with no card required. One map export is used when the final files for a map are unlocked; downloading that saved export again does not use another export.

After the included exports, one-time packs are available (1 for $1.49, 5 for $4.50, or 10 for $8). A subscription is not required. Map Designer Pro is an optional monthly or annual subscription for unlimited map exports. Purchased export credits remain on the account until used.

## Commercial use and attribution

Generated SVG, STL, and 3MF files may be used for personal projects and commercial physical products under the Free Plan License. Digital resale or redistribution of the generated files themselves requires an active Pro commercial license for files made while Pro is active, or written permission from MyLaserTools. The full terms control if this summary and the legal pages differ.

Map exports can include third-party geographic data with separate attribution requirements. Publicly shared designs containing map features generally require OpenStreetMap contributor credit; topography uses Copernicus data; bathymetry and other sources can have additional provider-specific conditions. The editor displays relevant data-credit notices. Check the licensing page, including its bathymetry attribution section, and place required credit on the item, listing, packaging, instructions, or other accompanying material when it cannot reasonably fit on the physical item.
